Low Cost Vaccinations at Wylie Animal Shelter, The First Friday of Every Month

The City of Wylie Ordinance Requires:

  • Your dog and cat must be restricted behind a fence or on a leash, or in a building at all times.

  • All dogs, cats and ferrets are required to be properly vaccinated against rabies every twelve months after their initial vaccination against rabies at the age of three months.

  • All pets (dogs, cats, and ferrets) must be registered with the Animal Control Division every twelve months.  Registration should coincide with the pets required vaccination.  Pet Registration Fees are:  $2.00 for neutered dogs, cats and ferrets, $5.00 for non-neutered dogs, cats and ferrets.  Registration tags may be acquired at the Finance Department, City Hall, 2000 Hwy. 78, Wylie, Tx. 75098 or by mail to that address.

  • Your pet must wear it's current city registration tag on it's collar at all times.  These tags are vital if your pet is LOST or INJURED when running at large.

It is unlawful for an owner or any person to:

  • Fail to prevent their animal from running at large with the City Limits.

  • Allow their animal to run FREE in City Parks.

  • Abuse or cruelly mistreat any animal, or fail to provide it with proper food, water, shelter, or abandon it when ill or injured.

  • Allow their pet's quarters to become unsanitary, malodorous or obnoxious to others.

  • Allow any excreta deposited by their animal to remain on public or private property.

  • Allow their pet to become a nuisance by excessive noise or repeatedly at large.

  • For a person to own, maintain or keep a wild animal in the city limits.

What may happen if you do not take proper care of your pet:

  • It may be hit by a car on the streets or freeways.

  • You may be summoned to Court for not complying with City Ordinances.

  • It may be impounded at the City Animal Shelter and you will be charged to redeem your pet.

  • All animals are held for 3-7 days.  Then they will be evaluated for adoption.

Impoundment Fees:

  • The first time an animal is impounded the fee is $20.00.

  • The second time an animal is impounded the fee is $30.00

  • The third time an animal is impounded the fee is $40.00 plus applicable citations may be issued.

  • The fourth time an animal is impounded the fee is $50.00 plus the animal will be required to be sterilized and applicable citations may be issued.

  • In addition to the impoundment fee thee will be a $5.00/day boarding fee.

  • Boarding fees for all other animals (livestock)  will be $10.00/day boarding fee.

What to do in case of an animal bite:

  • Wash the bite area thoroughly with warm soapy water.

  • Seek medical attention or consult with your family physician.

  • Contact Animal Control and report the incident as soon as possible or within 24 hours.

  • Try to maintain contact with the animal (either visually or confine the animal) until Animal Control is contacted.

  • The animal MUST be quarantined for at least a ten (10) day period or appropriately tested as necessary.

The Adoption Program

  • Adoptions of animals are $20.00 for both cats and dogs.

  • Person(s) adopting an animal are required to sign a contract to have the animal vaccinated against rabies and sterilized.  Proof of the vaccination and sterilization must be provided to the Animal Control Division.

  • For your convenience, every 1st Friday the North Texas Mobile Veterinary Service is available at the Shelter from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. for pet vaccinations, call 972-430-2787 for fees and information.
