Whats
new?
The
Census Bureau mailed census questionnaires to all American households
in March, 2000. Some households received a long form but most received
the shortest questionnaire issued by the Census Bureau in 180 years.
The Census 2000 short form contained questions about household members
names, ages, sex, relationship, Hispanic origin, race, and housing
tenure. Questions about marital status, number of units, number
of rooms, value of the home, and monthly rent, were moved from the
short to the long form for Census 2000. Five subjects were dropped
from the long form because they were not required or mandated by
federal law: children ever born, year last worked, source of water,
sewage disposal, and condominium status. To comply with the Personal
Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996, a new subject was
added to the Census 2000 long form, grandparents as caregivers.
