Festivities planned

Dallas is celebrating architecture month through April 28 with tours, talks and seminars throughout the city.

The celebration begins at 6 p.m. Thursday with a lecture by aerial photographer Alex MacLean (Look at the Land) at the Dallas Museum of Art. It's free to members of the Dallas Architecture Forum, $15 for nonmembers. An exhibition of Mr. MacLean's photographs will run through May 18 at the Dallas office of the American Institute of Architects, 1444 Oak Lawn Ave., Suite 600.

At noon Monday there will be a free art and architecture tour of Fair Park sponsored by the Dallas Architectural Foundation. Meet at the Parry Avenue entrance.

Preservation Dallas has organized a neighborhood bus tour from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. It's $10; reservations suggested.

On April 20, AIA Dallas is sponsoring an educational tour of the Dallas Women's Museum, focusing on its transformation from a coliseum to a cultural institution. Admission $5. Reservations suggested.

An Uptown loft tour is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. April 21 under the auspices of the American Society of Interior Designers. The tour begins at 2011 Cedar Springs. Admission $15, ($8 for students).

The festivities will conclude April 28 with a self-guided tour of houses architects designed for themselves. Admission $15 before April 25, $20 thereafter.

These public events will be interspersed with smaller seminars and discussions on topics ranging from the Trinity River to careers in architecture. Additional information is available from AIA Dallas, 214-742-3242, or www.dallasaia.org.
