Part-Time
Public Safety Dispatcher

JOB TITLE: Part-time Police & Fire Dispatcher/911 Operator
START RATE: $12.00 per hour
AVAILABILITY: Immediate
SPECIAL HOURS: Position is Part-time, 32 hrs/week, nights and weekends, including holidays

GENERAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
Call-taking phase will consist of answering and processing E911 and non-emergency calls for service via Computer Aided Dispatch system. Monitoring and use of a telephone device for the deaf; utilizing maps and emergency resource materials; compiling daily reports for administration; recording information for Police/Fire/EMS personnel, and learning practices and procedures used by all departments.

Dispatching phase will consist of maintaining accurate status of Police/Fire/EMS personnel and apparatus via Computer Aided Dispatching system. Will conduct computer searches through local, state, and national crime databases for wanted subjects, stolen property, driver information etc. Will make confirmations on wanted subjects and arrest warrants and relay said information to requesting officers; send teletypes via Texas and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System; enter, clear, and validate computer entries with Texas Dept. of Public Safety and others; initiate and test emergency civil defense sirens, monitor direct incoming alarm panels, weather monitors, security and jail cameras, city wide radio and other mutual aid city radio channels.

Other aspects of the position include: working in a confined area for 12 hours and remaining seated for long periods of time entering data into various computer systems on a constant basis; assigning appropriate public safety personnel for routine and emergency calls for service; preparing offense/incident reports and maintaining various files. Other job functions might include call-outs and, for female dispatchers, the searching of female prisoners.

This employee must be available to work any shift, holidays and weekends as needed for scheduling purposes.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES and EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of telephone skills as related to multi-incoming emergency and non-emergency lines, difference between civil and criminal law, practices and procedures used by police and fire departments. Skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, good diction and enunciation skills to communicate via radio system, working knowledge of windows 2000 operating system. High school graduate plus minimum one year experience in the following:

  1. Position with high public contact requiring decision making and problem solving under high stress
  2. Multi-tasking experience using data entry or word processing.
  3. Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Intensive background investigation, pre-employment testing, physical and drug test are required as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/HEALTH/SAFETY:
Exposure to infectious diseases. Stress level can sometimes be high due to constant radio/telephone/public traffic. Able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally; 10 pounds frequently.

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Parks Department

JOB TITLE: Parks Maintenance Worker
DEPARTMENT: Parks
START RATE: $11.17 per hour
AVAILABILITY: Immediate

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Under supervision, maintains parks, mows, trims, waters, plants trees, plants flowers, etc. Works effectively with other crew members to maintain parks and athletic fields. Uses various types of parks equipment including mowers, trimmers, Dixie chopper, etc. Picks up trash. Keeps work areas clean. Maintains tools as requested. Reads, understands and follows written and oral job instructions. Write reports by hand as needed, legible and complete. Exercises good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Hears clearly when working around equipment or in street and alley traffic. Uses proper safety precautions at all times. Communicates courteously with other City staff members as well as the public. Maintains a good attendance record; rarely absent or tardy. Presents good appearance; clean and well groomed. Follows safety regulations, City and department policies and procedures. Operates vehicles according to rules of safety and laws of the State of Texas. Wears proper safety equipment at all times. Able and willing to work outside in all kinds of weather. Able to exert physical strength up to 50 -100 lbs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas Driver's License, Class "C" without restrictions except "A". Minimum of six months working in the same or similar type job. Must have experience with tractors and other industrial lawn equipment. Experience working with various types of equipment spades, shovels, saws, etc. Physical strength: high - 50-100 pounds occasionally; 25-50 pounds frequently; 10-20 pounds constantly. Must be available for emergency call-outs. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Summer Youth Program Leader

JOB SUMMARY: Provide an environment in which participants can feel safe; enjoy wholesome recreational activities and participate in appropriate social opportunities with their peers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Follow all City, Departmental and Program standards that apply to Wylie Youth Programs.
Follow all policies and procedures that apply to Wylie Youth Programs.
Ensure participants are released only to a parent or an adult designated by the parent. All program sites will have information on site for authorized person(s) to pick up participants. Authorized persons must be able to identify themselves.
Treat ALL children with courtesy, respect, tolerance and patience.
Demonstrate good judgment and self-control when working with children.
Present pleasing appearance, appropriate dress and grooming.
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills at all times.
Set-up activity areas.
Take down activity areas.
Supervise groups of children.
Complete required reports and forms.
Present self as positive role model.
Communicate effectively with peers, parents and children.
Perform light janitorial duties.
Regular attendance, never or rarely absent or tardy.
Cooperate with other leaders.
Courteous to leaders, supervisors.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 16 years of age or older. (Prefer 18 years and older).
Must be able to consistently exhibit competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with children.
Leaders should have some experience dealing with children
Current First Aid/CPR certifications from A.H.A. or American Red Cross; or able to obtain certifications within a time frame assigned
by the Assistant Superintendent.

Employment conditioned upon passing a criminal background investigation; TB test, physical examination and drug screen administered by professionals designated by the City of Wylie.
