The purpose of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Junior Group and Innovators is to promote the interest and growth of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra through fundraising and service projects by offering a variety of community, educational and social programs. Our volunteers make this possible through contributions, time, talent and resources. The Dallas Symphony Guild is an organization of business and professional leaders who, like the League, appreciate fine music and have a desire to see the DSO grow and prosper as a cultural and civic force. The groups are structured to age and lifestyle.

Symphony enthusiasts are becoming members of the Association by joining one or more of the four auxiliary groups: the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL), the Junior Group of the DSOL, The Innovators of the DSOL, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Guild. Membership is open throughout the year and orientation for new members takes place every September. Groups are structured according to age and lifestyles, and two of the four groups are coed. The Association presently has more than 1,600 volunteers.

Each of the volunteer areas has its own fundraising projects, educational and musical meetings as well as service projects within the community. In addition, various social functions are planned throughout the year so that members are able to enjoy themselves while benefiting the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Volunteers are called upon to assist staff with such projects as the Season Ticket Campaign (March of each year) and the Sustaining Fund Drive including the Stradivarius and Encore Patron Programs. Other activities include ushering thousands of students into the Meyerson Symphony Center for Youth concerts, chauffeuring guest artists and conductors, tours for the visually impaired through "Access Dallas Symphony", serving as docents for the Meyerson Symphony Center tours, participating in the Music & Merit Program, sponsoring the Friedlander Competition for Young Strings plus continually receiving high marks for raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for operations and endowment each season. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra greatly appreciates the volunteer groups and their services.

The League, Junior Group and Innovators endowed the Musicians’ Lounge in the Meyerson Center, the Principal Keyboard Chair and one annual performance in the Classical Series by a keyboard soloist in the Classical Series, were underwriters for the 1997 and 2000 DSO’s European Tours and the Dallas Symphony’s Centennial Season.

The American Symphony Orchestra League has recognized four of the League's projects and has awarded the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Volunteers for exemplary work in Season Tickets, Youth Educational Services, a Grand Opening event and the Presentation Ball. For more information about membership in any of the volunteer arms, call the Volunteer Department of the Dallas Symphony Association at (214) 871-4004.
