Jan Strimple: Toot-toot-tootsies, don't cry; try this pedicure instead

ASK JAN

05/31/2001

By / The Dallas Morning News

Question: In a previous edition of F!D, you mentioned a salon near Southern Methodist University that was tops in pedicures. Would you mind refreshing my memory? Thanks!

Dani, via e-mail

Answer: Gladly, as I just squeezed in an appointment with the "healer of soles" last week, and she's fabulous! The salon is The Neinast Salon, the "healer" is Judy Gardner, and the salon's phone number is 214-999-0400. Judy has an approach that will leave your feet remembering her for several days after your pedicure; they'll tingle with tenderness as she gets you back in touch with your soles! She calls it "heaven and glamour," with the glamour being the color finish. And the heaven? (Well, it's not the process you'll go through, because, ouch, that water's hot!) Heaven is the results you'll get from her highly skilled technique. A sign that hangs in her work area will remind you that you'll pay for her experience – but in my opinion, she's worth every penny!

Question:

Back in the late 1950s, when I was in grade school, I would purchase a small bottle of Blue Waltz perfume for my mother's Christmas gift. It was very inexpensive and I bought it at a dime store. Is there any perfume made now that has the same fragrance? I would just love to have something similar to bring back precious memories of my mother.

Kathy in Richardson

Answer: Kathy, no need to settle for something similar when the real thing still exists! Parfumelle in Fort Worth (1-800-874-1118 toll free or www.parfumelle.com ) carries Blue Waltz and the staff there is looking forward to your visit!

Fab fragrance finds

I have piles of letters from readers looking for fragrances they can no longer find. I've called several sources, including Parfumelle in Fort Worth (see item above), Debbie's Fragrance & Gift Shop in Garland (972-278-9747), Perfumania at Grapevine Mills (972-724-6800; www.perfumania.com) and Beneash Perfumes at Valley View mall (972-661-8966 or 1-800-704-8966 toll free). So read on, perfume seekers, 'cause this'll make you happy!

Irene in Richardson and Suzanne in Austin: At Parfumelle, you'll find the full line of Privilege, including lotion and powder. Debbie's and Beneash have the fragrance.

Deana in Dallas: Oscar de la Renta's Volupte Eau de Toilette spray is in stock at all four stores.

Emily on Yahoo, you'll find your Vivid by Liz Claiborne at all four stores.

Beverly at Gabberts: Jungle Gardenia is in stock at Parfumelle, Debbie's and Beneash.

Margaret in Campbell, Texas: White Shoulders Bath Oil is available at Parfumelle, but is sold only as a part of a set (generally paired with the fragrance spray). Debbie's sells the oil solo, but at press time had only two bottles in stock.

Gretchen in Bullard, Texas: Aire by Giorgio is at Debbie's, Parfumelle and Beneash.

Fredye in Dallas: Tell Heidi that she'll find Gossip by Cindy Adams (manufactured by Coty) at Debbie's – in very limited supply! And yes, let's do lunch!

Over-60 Shirley: Tea Rose by The Perfumer's Workshop Ltd. is still produced and is currently experiencing a revival in the under-60 crowd! You'll find the eau de toilette at Parfumelle, Debbie's and Perfumania. Greenberg's Horizon Pharmacy (214-361-7118) has it on order.

If it's the perfume or oil you're looking for, those can be ordered only directly from the manufacturer. The perfume costs $67 for a quarter-ounce, and the oil is $72 a quarter-ounce. These prices include postage and handling. To place an order, call 212-644-8950, ext. 10, or write The Perfumers Workshop International, 150 E. 58th St., 26th Floor, New York, NY 10155.

Anita in Duncanville: Cher's Uninhibited is no longer made, but Debbie's has a distributor that just delivered a box of trial-size vials, which sell for 50 cents each. Beneash has a couple of full bottles left, so grab whatever you can immediately. And when you're ready to face the music, the experts at Parfumelle suggest you give Casmir by Chopard a try, as it's won over many an Uninhibited fan.

Mary in Dallas: Debbie's has trial-size vials of Red for men by Giorgio. Parfumelle's experts have sucessfully moved many Red men toward Quorum by Puig, since Red is no longer produced. Perhaps that'll work for your man, too?

Barbara in Dallas: Eau de Gucci? You'll find full sizes at Perfumania and Beneash, glass vials at Debbie's (she has only a few), and the shower gel at Parfumelle.

All stores specialize in – and ship – the hard-to-find. And 24 hours make a difference in the availability of your fave fragrance, so call 'em quick!
