FORT WORTH, Jul 06

The new president and CEO of John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth says he will focus his energies on a plan of action in the first two months of his tenure. David M. Cecero spoke with reporters just minutes after receiving contract approval from the Tarrant County Hospital District Board of Directors.

Cecero has 24 years of experience in hospital operations and financial management. He's worked for healthcare systems in the Chicago area and New York state.

Cecero says he's aware of the challenges facing the county-supported hospital and medical system.

"My mother always taught me you need to listen with both your ears and your eyes,” he said. “And, I’ve read something regarding emergency room service and regarding the pharmacy and I believe from what I've been apprised that management is moving forward with great dispatch to correct some of those issues."

Cecero will be paid a base salary of $240,000 annually and additional bonuses of up to 30 percent of that amount.
