On the boys side, Lewisville placed second in the meet at 174 points, behind McKinney's 246. Carrollton Creekview placed third, with 157 points.

Marcus girls win

The Flower Mound Marcus girls soccer team, considered one of the top Class 5A teams in the state after advancing to the state semifinals a year ago, opened its season Friday with a 2-0 win over Arlington. Andrea Means and Amy Berend scored for Marcus. The team returns to action Thursday in the Arlington Tournament.

Graves leads The Colony

Tamesha Graves has helped The Colony girls basketball team to a 5-1 start in District 5-5A. Graves scored 20 points in Tuesday's 63-42 win over Carrollton Creekview that moved The Colony to 11-9 this season. For the year, Graves is averaging 17.4 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Ryan wins tourney

The Denton Ryan boys basketball team defeated Skyline on Saturday, 67-53, to win the Durant (Okla.) Lions Classic. Ryan, the defending Class 4A state champion, had never before won an invitational tournament.

Ryan guard Greg Boyd scored 16 points in the win over Skyline and earned tournament most valuable player honors for his all-around play. McDade, who led Ryan with 17 points in the final, joined Boyd as one of only six players chosen to the all-tournament team.

Maxiell dominant

Carrollton Newman Smith forward Jason Maxiell is making a bid to lead Dallas-area Class 5A schools in scoring and rebounding. The 6-8 Maxiell ranks first in the area in rebounds, with 15.2 per game, and second in scoring, with 24.5 per game.

Maxiell, who is ranked among the top 20 power forward prospects in the nation by Rivals.com, has committed to play basketball at Cincinnati next season.

Lewisville evens mark

After beginning the District 6-5A season 0-2, the Lewisville boys basketball team has rebounded to win two straight. On Tuesday, Lewisville (14-7, 2-2) defeated Carrollton Turner (4-16, 0-4) 70-49, behind a 19-6 run to open the game. That effort followed Friday's 46-27 win over McKinney.
