Blood donors sought

Free movie tickets and T-shirts will be given away as part of the Start of Summer Blood Drive from noon to 7 p.m. June 10 at Plano Tinseltown USA, at Parker Road and the Dallas North Tollway. Everyone who registers to give blood will receive a colorful T-shirt, and the first 80 who register will receive a free IMAX Cinemark Theatre movie pass. In addition, all those who sign up to give blood through June 10 at any Carter BloodCare Neighborhood Donor Center will receive a T-shirt.

Blood donations benefit people throughout a 22-county service area. Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. There is no upper age limit for donating, and most medications do not interfere with eligibility.

Health talk set

Dr. Leonard Lopez will discuss the relationship between stress and weight loss from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Whole Foods Market, 2201 Preston Road. Dr. Lopez of the Natural Wellness Center is a regular guest on Good Morning Texas. He will discuss how to balance hormones and trigger the body to burn stored fat. Class size is limited; sign up at customer service in the store.

Newcomers to meet

The High Voltage Quartet will perform at the next meeting of the Plano Newcomer Women's Club at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1919 Independence Parkway. The club is open to newcomers and older residents from Plano, Allen, Frisco and Parker. Max Jaffe, a certified public accountant, will present "How to Live Well and Keep Money in Your Pocket" after a brief coffee social and business meeting.

Kids' author to appear

Deanna Luke, author of the Marky series, will read and discuss her books at 3 p.m. June 13 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 801 W. 15th St. The Marky books are popular with readers ages 8 to 12.
