Projects won't get started yet
ROWLETT – The policy's there, the people are eager, but it's going to be a while before any bricks are laid. The City Council adopted a policy this week for public improvement districts, giving the green light to neighborhoods that want to begin the process to pay for special projects such as subdivision walls. But they've still got a lot of work to do.

A place at the table
ROCKWALL – It may look a little bit out of place, but Joe Willy's Market & Grill is right where owner Rick Basinger wants it – in Rockwall. Joe Willy's – a longtime staple on Upper Greenville Avenue in Dallas known for its burgers and seasoned fries – arrived on South Goliad Street, just north of Interstate 30, a year ago.

Rockwall to start work on 3 new buildings
ROCKWALL – Six years of planning is finally about to pay off for city officials. They will break ground Wednesday for a new City Hall, police and courts building, and community and senior citizens center. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. at the current City Hall, 205 W. Rusk St., which will be renovated and expanded into the police and courts building.

Jones says preserve Rockwall
Ken Jones says he has a passion for preserving Rockwall's past and a vision for the city's future. If elected mayor, he said, he would work closely with city officials, residents and the Hometown 2000 Committee, which is charged with recommending ways to guide development and growth.

Dr. Suzanne Smith says that as a resident, mother and business owner in Rowlett, she has a lot invested in the city, and she wants to make sure her daughter has plenty of opportunities there in the future. Dr. Smith, 47, is a podiatrist seeking the Place 3 seat held by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pam Swindling.

Rockwall leans on Duran to lead repeat hopes
There seems to be little doubt about where the Rockwall boys tennis team pins its hopes for a repeat performance of last year's District 9-5A championship.
