Innovative idea

03/31/2001

The Christian Bible hasn't changed much in more than a thousand years. So finding new ways to approach and study the same texts is a constant challenge. Skillman Church of Christ in Dallas has a regular Wednesday Bible study with an interesting angle: "Questions People Posed to Jesus." Minister Mike Armour got the idea from a conference he attended where a session focused on questions Jesus asked. Mr. Armour borrowed that theme for a series of Bible studies last year.

This year, he and his staff decided to turn the idea around. One week the class addressed Pilate's question about truth. Another week, they took the question raised by the Jewish leaders of the day about authority.

The class draws more than 70 people every week.

"Jesus never ducked an honest question," Mr. Armour said. "But he ducked some dishonest ones."
