| Place of worship: Colonial Hills Baptist Church 03/31/2001 When the Rev. Bobby Tollison was called to serve as pastor of Colonial Hills Baptist Church a year ago, he felt he'd been handed a golden opportunity to serve the growing area around Cedar Hill.
"The church was already reaching out," Dr. Tollison said. "I just felt like we needed to do more."
One of many changes will begin April 22. The traditional Sunday morning worship service will start at 9 a.m. instead of 10:45, making room for an 11 a.m. contemporary service with a praise band featuring keyboard and guitar players. Dr. Tollison hopes the new service along with classes and sports leagues, and a family life center with full-size gymnasium will lure young churchgoers.
"God has positioned us for rapid growth in the next few years," he said.
Services: 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday
Congregation: About 1,350 members
History: Established in 1984 with members from Hillcrest Baptist Church and a recently disbanded Clark Road Baptist Church. The congregation first met at Clark Road, and moved into its current building in 1988.
What makes the church unique: "The people really want to love other people," Dr. Tollison said. "I see that as a very special gift."
