| Place of worship: Trinity Presbyterian Church 04/07/2001 Trinity Presbyterian Church has many older congregants who are full of enthusiasm, said the Rev. Julie Adkins, senior pastor of the Oak Cliff church.
"On the one hand, you see a lot of gray heads," she said of Trinity's demographics. "But there are also a lot of people who are engaged."
Although the neighborhood surrounding Trinity has changed drastically over the years, members, many in their 70s and 80s, have opted to stay put and make a difference, Dr. Adkins said.
The church's neighborhood-based ministries include the Oasis Housing Corp., founded 14 years ago, which provides housing and mentoring for people coming out of shelters. The church also provides $10,000 every year to an after-school program at nearby James Hogg Elementary. Church members also regularly prepare and serve meals for Austin Street Shelter residents and for clients of AIDS Services of Dallas.
Services: Traditional service at 11 a.m. Sunday; casual service for personal meditation, Communion, candle lighting and prayer at 7 p.m. the first Sunday of each month.
Congregation: 178 members
History: Established in 1890. Began meeting in current facility in 1950.
What makes the church unique: "Trinity is a church with a rich history of service in Oak Cliff," Dr. Adkins said.
