Saturday: At sundown, Jews begin celebrating Passover, the eight-day observance that commemorates the departure of the Israelites from Egypt.

Thursday: Christians observe Maundy Thursday, which celebrates the institution of the Lord's Supper by Jesus.

Friday: Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Friday: Hindus observe Vaisakhi, an agricultural festival celebrating the harvest.

Friday: Sikhs celebrate Baisakhi Day, the first of the month of Vaisakh, the beginning of the solar year. On this day in 1699 Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa Panth, the Brotherhood of the Pure.

Friday: Buddhists who adhere to the Saka calendar celebrate New Year Friday and Saturday, a religious and cultural event.

Living Legends Dinner: The Steven Temple Church of God in Christ will honor the Rev. W.E. Roberts and Theodore Lee at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn DeSoto, 1515 N. Beckley Ave. Suggested donation $20. Call 214-374-5738.

Baisakhi Day Celebration: Area Sikhs will gather from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Irving Sikh Center, 834 N. Nursery Road. The DFW Khalsa Parade will be at 10 a.m. April 15 at the center. The event marks the 302nd anniversary of the Khalsa Order, which Sikhs join by being baptized and adopting a strict discipline. Activities will include martial arts demonstrations and hymn singing.
