HOLY DAYS

Sunday: Christians celebrate Easter, which commemorates the resurrection of Christ. It is the oldest and most important festival in the Christian year.

Sunday: Jews celebrate the last day of Passover, which commemorates the departure of the Israelites from Egypt.

Thursday: Jews commemorate Yom Hashoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, in honor of the 6 million Jews who died as victims of Nazi atrocities during World War II.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Refuge and Bodhisattva Vow Ceremony: The daylong event on the Buddhist way of life will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Vajradakini Buddhist Center, 3501 N. MacArthur Blvd., Suite 417, Irving. The ceremony will take place during the afternoon session. Call 972-871-2611.

Faith Works Conference: The conference for women will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 21 at Birchman Baptist Church, 9100 N. Normandale St., Fort Worth. Author Carol Ruvolo will direct the sessions. Cost is $35 through Monday and $40 afterward. Call 817-244-6590.

5K Dallas Bagel Fun Run/Walk: The Jewish Community Center of Dallas will sponsor the event at 8:30 a.m. April 22 at the community center, 7900 Northaven Road. From noon to 4 p.m., the center will hold an Israel Independence Day celebration with live music, art, food and a carnival. Race registration is $18 before Monday and $23 afterward. Amigos Days: Volunteers are needed Friday and April 21, 27 and 28 to help repair homes and assist workers. Sponsored by the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and Oak Cliff United Methodist Church. Several shifts are available each day.
