Digital Aerial Photography and Elevation Contours

The North Central Texas Council of Governments has facilitated the purchase of high-quality aerial images and digital elevation contours of North Central Texas. In 2001, digital aerial photography (orthos) was obtained for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall, Somervell, and Tarrant counties, and digital elevation contours were obtained for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties. The 2001 orthos are one-foot resolution and the elevation contours are in two-foot intervals.

In 2003, orthos were obtained for all 16 counties in the NCTCOG region, plus the area served by the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Planning Organization. The 2003 orthos are six-inch resolution in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties, and one-foot resolution in the remainder of the region.

Following the success of these two projects, NCTCOG has facilitated the cooperative purchase of aerial photography in 2005.   Bohannan Huston is the contractor on this project and collected six-inch resolution aerial imagery for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties.

The 2001, 2003, and 2005 aerial images are available for viewing and printing at www.dfwmaps.com. Combined with the digital elevation contours, the products create a three-dimensional picture of over 9,000 square miles of North Central Texas.
