HOUSTON -- Mike Wilks scored 25 points, including four 3-pointers and all seven of his free throws, as Rice defeated Tulsa 59-56 Thursday night.

Wolfram leads UTEP past San Jose State
Bradon Wolfram hit 10 of his 12 field goal attempts for UTEP (19-6, 8-5 WAC). He also pulled down six rebounds and all six of his free-throw attempts.

Record doesn't bring Sasser joy
UNIVERSITY PARK – Jeryl Sasser could find no joy in becoming SMU's all-time leading scorer. Not when another of his goals – carrying this team to the NCAA Tournament – looked more unlikely than anyone in Mustangs' camp would care to admit.

TCU players failed drug tests, sources say
FORT WORTH – Senior Myron Anthony and junior Greedy Daniels were dismissed from the TCU men's basketball team last week because both failed multiple drug tests, two sources confirmed.

'Tark the Shark' retains his bite
To the coaching fraternity, he is a defensive mastermind. To his players, he is a motivator and practice junkie. Most of all, the coach with the iron will, soft heart and jagged reputation is still winning.

Schultz: Texas talent fuels top teams
Erika Valek, the starting point guard at Purdue, is one of several first-year players contributing for the nation's top teams. And many like Valek, who graduated last year from Lubbock Coronado, came from Texas high schools.

Catchings watches last regular season home game from sidelines
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Duncanville-ex Tamika Catchings has already cried because she can't play in top-ranked Tennessee's game against Vanderbilt on Thursday. Catchings, the reigning national player of the year and the Lady Vols' top scorer and rebounder, will dress in street clothes and watch from the sidelines as she has since Jan. 15 when she tore the ACL in her right knee.

With two games left in the regular season, Adelphi is 24-0, the only unbeaten team in the NCAA on any level. They have everybody from the quaint Long Island campus to national television networks starting to pay attention.

A couple of college basketball's big blues climbed back into the Associated Press Top 25 last week. And it appears both UCLA and Kentucky, who had been absent from the poll for 11 weeks, will probably stay there and become factors in the NCAA Tournament next month.

HOUSTON – Rakim Hollis scored 23 points to lead Texas Southern to a 69-67 overtime win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.

MEN: Abilene Christian 62, Eastern New Mexico 49
PORTALES, N.M. – Peter Kiganya scored 16 points and pulled down 22 rebounds as Abilene Christian defeated Eastern New Mexico 62-49 on Saturday.

MEN: La.-Monroe 107, Texas-San Antonio 104, OT
SAN ANTONIO – Brian Lubeck scored 28 points to lead Louisiana-Monroe to a 107-104 overtime victory Saturday night over Texas-San Antonio.

Texas women need OT to beat OSU, 73-69
STILLWATER, Okla. – Kaira White scored five points in the final minutes of regulation and finished with 14 points as No. 18 Texas beat Oklahoma State 73-69 in overtime Saturday night.

EL PASO – After a blowout loss to Fresno State earlier this season, UTEP made sure it didn't have a repeat performance.

HAMMOND, La. – Alfrado Jackson was perfect for Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night. Jackson scored 13 points – making 4-of-4 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line as Southeastern beat Lamar 53-42.

MEN: Northwestern State 87, Southwest Texas State 76
SAN MARCOS – Chris Thompson scored 25 points to lead Northwestern State to an 87-76 victory over Southwest Texas on Saturday night.

Depleted Frogs still win, 110-84
FORT WORTH – TCU's roster essentially dropped to seven players for Saturday's home game against Nevada. The Horned Frogs seemed unfazed, though, for at least one night.

Arkansas State tops inspired North Texas, 87-75
DENTON – Emotion and effort meant only so much for North Texas against Arkansas State on Saturday night.

North Texas women beat Arkansas State, 83-67
JONESBORO, Ark. – Nicole Thomas hit three of her five 3-point baskets in the opening minutes of the second half to spark a 25-6 run that gave North Texas a commanding lead over Arkansas State on the way to an 83-67 victory Saturday.

Colorado tops A&M women, 67-54
COLLEGE STATION – Tera Bjorklund had 25 points and eight rebounds as No. 19 Colorado beat Texas A&M 67-54 Saturday night.

MEN: South Florida 79, Houston 60
TAMPA, Fla. – Altron Jackson scored 24 points as South Florida regained a share of first place in Conference USA's National Division with a 79-60 victory over Houston Saturday night.

McNeese State stops UTA, 105-96
ARLINGTON – With just more than nine minutes left Saturday, McNeese State's basketball players had shifted to cruise control. Ahead by 19 points and hitting one out of every two shots, the Cowboys looked to have the game well in hand.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy wasn't asked about his future with the Cyclones after they beat Kansas on Saturday. But he talked about it anyway.

MEN: Texas-Pan American 68, Centenary 66
SHREVEPORT, La. – Terrell Hill's layup with 1:05 remaining gave Texas-Pan American its game-winning points and Centenary sophomore Shohn Williams missed the first of two free throws with no time remaining to preserve the Broncs' 68-66 victory Saturday.

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M introduced a new collie as the school's mascot heir to Reveille on Saturday. But when it came to protecting themselves from Missouri's 3-point shooters, the Aggies needed Dobermans.

AMES, Iowa – Freshmen Jake Sullivan and Shane Power helped Iowa State shoot down Kansas again, and the Jayhawks' Eric Chenowith can't understand how they did it.

Women's roundup: Offense leaves SMU no shot in defeat
UNIVERSITY PARK – The night began special enough when SMU retired the No. 50 jersey belonging to Karlin Kennedy, the school's all-time leading scorer. It wasn't long, however, before women's basketball coach Rhonda Rompola probably had thoughts of taking Kennedy's white uniform out of that frame and putting her back into action.

NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma's basketball team started 11-1 before losing three of its first four Big 12 games. That's when Kelvin Sampson found an answer: He installed J. R. Raymond at point guard.
