| College notebook Tennis on the 'Net 04/10/2001 From Staff and Wire Reports COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Big 12 men's tennis showdown on Saturday between fifth-ranked Texas A&M and 14th-ranked Texas will be webcast live via the Internet by iCAN, the Internet Collegiate Athletics Network. The 1 p.m. match at the A&M Tennis Center will be the first Internet broadcast of a college tennis match by a national company. The broadcast can be viewed at http://www.universitysports.tv using a high-speed connection.

Kansas sophomore forward Nick Collison will have surgery Tuesday to alleviate bursitis in his right elbow. The surgery will keep him out of off-season practice from two weeks. Collison averaged 14 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Jayhawks last season. ... Baylor has added a baseball game with UT-Arlington to make up for a rainout. The Bears will play UTA in a double-header at 4 p.m. on April 24. ... A poll of Big 12 golf coaches picks Texas as the favorite to win the conference's men's championship, April 23-24 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The poll was used to determine first-round pairings.
Tech defense surges
Texas Tech's defense stood out in last Saturday's scrimmage, the last before the Red Raiders conclude spring football drills with the Red-Black game this Saturday.
The defense collected eight sacks and three interceptions. Jonathan Hawkins had two sacks, and Byron Johnson and Marquis Turner each had an interception.
Quarterback Kliff Kingsbury was 21-of-35 passing for 228 yards and a touchdown. Wes Welker caught seven passes for 120 yards, including gains of 35 and 46 yards.
The Red-Black Game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Lowery Field.

ST. BONAVENTURE: Jan van Breda Kolff, who coached Vanderbilt to four postseason berths in six years, is leaving Pepperdine to become coach at St. Bonaventure.
SOUTH CAROLINA: Wake Forest coach Dave Odom has emerged as the favorite for the basketball coaching job, according to published reports.
TULSA: Assistant coach John Phillips was promoted to head basketball coach and received a four-year contract.
