| Two longtime DISD coaches are dismissed 04/11/2001 By Rick Alonzo / The Dallas Morning News Brothers Doug Scott and Steve Scott, longtime boys basketball coaches in the Dallas Independent School District, have been dismissed from their coaching jobs.
Doug Scott, who said he coached at Samuell for 34 years and won more than 500 games, said he will not return in any coaching capacity next season.
Scott, 58, finished 6-19 last season at Samuell and next-to-last in District 12-4A.
Scott said his Samuell teams never finished last in district.
"I was disappointed we never won state," said Scott, who graduated from Samuell. "We had two teams finish the season ranked second in the state. You have to be kind of lucky in the playoffs. We lost four times in the playoffs to teams that won state."
Steve Scott coached at Hillcrest for 18 years and won a Class 4A state championship in 1987. He said he is "90 percent sure" he will coach another sport at Hillcrest next season, but he didn't know which one.
Scott went 7-19 last season at Hillcrest and finished next-to-last in District 11-4A.
Scott, 54, led his Hillcrest teams to 11 district championships in18 years, he said. He coached Hillcrest to the state title in 1987 by beating Cleburne, 51-42.
At Hillcrest, Scott coached New York Knicks forward Kurt Thomas. |
