Raising the stakes
Lone Star Park faces new horizons, new challenges
After just four years of operation, Lone Star Park has established itself as the 10th-leading racetrack in the nation in terms of average daily attendance, 11th in terms of average daily handle. One of the sport's success stories, the Grand Prairie racetrack is mentioned as a possible site for the 2004 Breeders' Cup Championship. But here's the problem with raising the bar: Now you have to jump a little higher.
Prepped for success
Lone Star Park's 2001 season pops out of the starting gate on the opening weekend with the $500,000 Lone Star Derby on April 7. And this should be a new and improved version.
Jockey event sits on top
Although other racetracks have attempted to copy the National All-Star Jockey Championship or have put on some faux festival, the event at Lone Star Park is different because it truly celebrates the jockeys.
