Transportation Fellowship Program

ladies at workThe North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has created the Transportation Fellowship Program in an attempt to increase the pool of qualified candidates for positions within the field of transportation. Women, ethnic minorities, and individuals demonstrating financial need are especially encouraged to apply for this financial assistance in obtaining graduate degrees in transportation-related fields. These persons have traditionally been underrepresented. The Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, and the Texas Department of Transportation fund the program through NCTCOG’s Unified Planning Work Program for Regional Transportation Planning. By assisting in the training of top quality transportation professionals, NCTCOG can assist in meeting the transportation challenges of the future.

The Transportation Fellowship Program is being administered through the University of Texas at Arlington for graduate students enrolled in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering or the School of Urban Affairs. It is anticipated that the Program will be expanded to other universities in North Central Texas. Fellowships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded on a yearly basis. One-half of each award will be distributed in each of the fall and spring semesters. Funds are to be used for tuition, fees, books, and/or educational supplies. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in an approved program of study (Transportation Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban or Spatial Geography, Transportation/Environmental Sciences, Logistics, Transportation or Civil Engineering, Transportation Law, Transportation Management, or Geographic Information Systems) and meet identified eligibility requirements.

In addition, selected recipients will be expected to attend periodic seminars hosted by the North Central Texas Council of Governments related to their professional development. These seminars are designed to complement the academic and professional experiences of the students, and include topics in transportation, public service, and professional development.
