Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation

rollerbladersBicycle and pedestrian modes of travel are recognized nation-wide as cost-efficient ways to address mobility and air quality concerns. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Task Force, sponsored by NCTCOG's Department of Transportation, is designed to spearhead regional efforts to insure safety and efficiency in this growing field. Under the provisions of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, our region has developed a long-range plan (Mobility 2025, Amended April 2005) which sets strategies for providing "effective, cost efficient, safe intermodal access for bicyclists and pedestrians." Bicycle and pedestrian travel is also a critical link in achieving Clean Air Act mandates by reducing automobile congestion and pollution levels. The Task Force is made up of representatives from local governments, the Texas Department of Transportation, local transit providers, and community groups and it works to assist local governments in achieving these air quality and mobility goals.
