Plaza Medical Center embarks on expansion
Fort Worth hospital's project emphasizes cardiovascular care

FORT WORTH -- Marking the first major expansion in its 28-year history, Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth will begin construction this summer on a $57 million project to improve its cardiovascular and neuroscience services and its emergency department.

The hospital has yet to set a date for the start of construction, but the 320-bed facility in the heart of Fort Worth's medical district is scheduled to be completed in two phases. The first phase -- including 10,976 square feet of new space and 24,702 square feet of renovations -- will focus on cardiovascular services and will include the addition of four open-heart surgery rooms and a new cardiac unit, including eight critical care beds.
