Mission
Statement As a
leader, Carrollton Parks and Recreation provides innovative, diverse and
quality recreation, and leisure opportunities for everyone, while preserving
Carrolltons parks and natural resources.
At Your Service Carrollton Parks and
Recreation has something for everyone! Through its innovative and efficient
staff, it offers a wide variety of leisure and parks and recreation activities
and programs such as sports, recreation and educational classes, nature walks,
historic places, swimming, youth and outdoor programs, community activities,
the arts, special events and senior activities to all Carrollton citizens. The
department acknowledges the importance of ultimately satisfying its internal
and external customers through its four divisions: Parks,
Leisure Services, Athletics and
Marketing/Administration
(scroll down for "current events"). The Parks Division
is responsible for ongoing maintenance for neighborhood and community
parks, the implementation of parks capital improvement programs, park facility
renovations, nature center maintenance, implementation and maintenance of
median beautification programs and provides natural wildlife greenbelt
parks.
The Leisure Services
Division consists of outreach services programming for: (1) youth
through the Youth Task Force and summer camps; (2) therapeutic recreation
through inclusionary programming, education and training; (3) the A.W. Perry
Homestead Museum through special events and specialty programming; (4) the Elm
Fork Nature Preserve through outdoor education/recreation, environmental and

The Athletics Division
provides services in athletics, tennis and aquatics. Athletics manages the
maintenance of all sports fields and supports and coordinates through local
sports associations and state athletic agencies. Through tennis and aquatics,
it controls the maintenance and operations of tennis and pool facilities.
The Marketing
Division oversees administration and community events and provides
public information. It markets all Parks and Recreation programs through the
Leisure Connections publication and many other media tools. Marketing seeks
grants to subsidize programming and development and through partnerships,
public and private organizations, creates a solid networking base. Benchmarking
and surveys are also conducted to improve programs. It manages a Service
Request Tracking System and provides general administrative support. Community
services coordinates and plans all special events, and recruits volunteers to
assist in Parks and Recreation activities.

THE YOUTH TASK FORCE
Carrollton Parks and Recreation is
now accepting applications for the Carrollton Youth Task Force, a committee
established in 1999 to encourage youth to participate in their community by
making recommendations to local government officials. This annually selected
committee was created to open dialogue between local teens and Carrollton City
Council. Members of the Task Force serve as role models by identifying,
prioritizing, and acting upon current important issues concerning youth today.
The Youth Task Force consists of 10 selected members between grades 9 through
12 (school year beginning August 2001) who reside in Carrollton. Members are
expected to attend monthly meetings. Interested youth are required to complete
and submit an application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2001.
Applications can be obtained from and submitted to their school counselor's
