FIRE PREVENTION
Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Gary Nesbitt heads the Prevention
Division of the Carrollton Fire Department. He is responsible for
coordinating the efforts of Fire Investigator Mark Howell, Inspectors
Scott Parker and Bob Glasgow, and Data Base Technician Linda Cobb to
provide the City of Carrollton with the finest of fire prevention
programs.
Current Fire Prevention programs include:
Commercial/Business inspections that include plan reviews for new
construction to ensure compliance with the latest versions of the
Uniform Building Code and continuing fire safety inspections
throughout the life of buildings. Investigation of Fire Scenes to
determine cause and origin of fires for educational purposes as well
as Arson determination. The Youth Firesetters Program provides an
alternate approach to help youths that play with fire or maliciously
set fires. This program attempts to provide training for these youths
that may keep them from being sent directly into the juvenile justice
system. Entertaining Educational shows presented by "Ms. Polly the
Fire Clown & Friends". These shows are presented annually at local
schools to provide students with the important message of fire
prevention. Station Tours are also provided for individuals and groups
who are interested in learning the ins and outs of fire prevention.
Information on any of these programs may be obtained by calling the
Fire Prevention Division at (972) 466-3210.

a population of roughly 105,800 people. Three railroads run through
the city - the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe, the Southern Pacific, and
the Union Pacific - giving Carrollton the second largest volume of
rail-traffic in Texas.

runs, with 4,880 of them being Emergency Medical Service calls.
EMERGENCY WARNING SYSTEM
TORNADO/CIVIL DEFENSE WARNING SIRENS
Seventeen large rotating warning sirens located throughout the city are sounded when there
is an immediate danger from:
Tornado Warning
National Security Threat
Environmental Hazard/Threat
There are two types of 3-minute signals generated by these sirens:
Steady Tone - TORNADO ALERT SIGNAL
indicates trained observers or radar has sighted a tornado.
Rise/Fall Siren - WARNING/ALERT SIGNAL
indicates public danger from a national
security threat or environmental hazard/threat.
The sirens rotate 360 degrees and the warning tone will fade and then
become louder as it rotates. This will occur several times while the
sirens are sounding.
When the emergency sirens sound:
GO or STAY INSIDE - Take shelter in interior
portions and on lower floors of buildings.
Stay away from windows and rooms
with long roof spans.
TAKE NECESSARY COVER - If outside,
seek inside shelter. If shelter is not available,
lie flat in a ditch, ravine or depression.
LISTEN to your local radio or TV
station for information. Cable subscribers
will get warnings on every channel.
STAY OFF THE TELEPHONE - DO NOT dial 911
or call the Fire Department or Police
Department unless you have an actual
fire/medical emergency, or need
police assistance.
DO NOT attempt to pick up children
at schools or other locations where
they would be safe.
There is no "all clear" signal!
Sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m.
(Weather Permitting).
